Toffees and Saints in summer move for Portuguese defender

While Ronald Koeman's focus for pre-season will be trying to keep hold of the players that have performed so well for him in 2016/2017, it seems he is already looking at ways of strengthening what many think is the best squad Everton have had in years.

One such position could be center back, with Phil Jagielka hitting 35 in August and only 2 other experienced players in that position the Dutchman would be sensible to bring in cover.

Reports from Portugal claim that Koeman has run the rule over Sporting defender Ruben Semedo, who has been a revelation at the heart of the Primeira Liga side's backline this season.

However it seems Koeman's former club Southampton have also ear-marked Semedo, who would be available at €22million, to strengthen their defence for the new season.

His decision, on which club to join, could be made depending on whether either side qualifies for Europe, with Everton looking strong contenders to earn a Europa League place.
