Round 2! West Ham and Marseille to battle it out over Striker

West Ham's newly found rivalry with Ligue 1 side Marseille seems about to take another twist as reports coming out of france suggest that the 2 clubs will go against each other to acquire the same marquee signing this summer.

Dimitri Payet signed for Marseille in January from the East Enders, after a drawn out transfer saga which saw the midfielder practically go on strike to secure a move back home. As would be expected this didn't go down too well with the West Ham faithful.

With West Ham still searching for a striker after the disaster that was Zaza and Marseille looking to revamp their forward line, both clubs will be in the market for a centre forward come the new season.

Step forward Mario Mandzukic, a player heavily linked with West Ham last summer and well known to boss Slaven Bilic, who managed him whilst head coach of the Croatia national team.

Madzukic, who was prolific whilst at Bayern Munich, has not set the world on fire since joining Juventus in 2015 and it is believed that the Italian club are willing to let their target man go. With Bilic's close relationship with him, West Ham look to be in pole position for this one, but as has been proved the East London club do not always get things their own way where their French rivals are concerned.
